Here are a list of tools that are great for getting a little extra insight into what the web thinks of your brand, site or campaign:

Topsy

This is a tool which can be used to search for trending topics across the web, twitter and photo sharing. It will show you where your brand is being mentioned and what people are saying about it as well as ranking the results depending on the influence of the commentators

Bit.ly

This can be used to shorten and track urls, which can be really useful when talking about your campaign on twitter or linking to it from another site. The tracking and analytic tools let you see how many clicks the link has had, alongside real time traffic data such as the location of the viewers etc.

Tweetdeck

This free tool is great for community management. A browser for keeping an eye on multiple social networking accounts (twitter, facebook, linkedin, etc.). You can set up multiple columns with different profile alerts, saved keyword searches and grouped aggregate friends (like clients). You can also download an app for you smartphone or ipad – for those who like to monitor on the move!

Radian6

A paid for subscription service that offers you complete listening on nearly all channels. You can see who is talking and their influence, alongside where your brands community is spending their time online and things trending in that demographic. This tool is especially useful for providing feedback on social media campaigns and benchmarking them against other activities that you may be doing.

Social Mention

A tool for creating free email alerts reporting on the buzz around your brand, campaign, competitors, etc. Also now has a widget you can embed on your blog to show alerts on a specific keyword.
